Es gibt andere Conventions als Origami Conventions?
Nun, ja, so ist es und ich war auf einer solchen. In den vergangenen vier Tagen fand die europäische Science Fiction Convention,
Fedcon, in Düsseldorf statt und ich war von meinem
Verlobten überredet worden, ihn dorthin zu begleiten. Als er mir erzählt hatte, dass mein großer Kindheits- und Teenagerzeit-Held
Scott Bakula dort sein würde, konnte ich einfach nicht nein sagen.
There are other conventions in the world than Origami conventions?
Well, yes there are and I've been to one of them. The last four days the european science fiction convention,
Fedcon, took place in Düsseldorf and I was persuaded by my
fiancée to come with him. He told me, that my childhood- and teenagetime-hero
Scott Bakula would be there, so couldn't say no.
Nun bin ich wieder zu Hause und denke an die Erfahrungen, die ich gemacht habe. Solch eine Convention ist absolut anders, als unsere Origami Conventions. Die Ehrengäste hier sind vor allem Schauspieler, die mehr oder weniger berühmt sind und daher mehr oder weniger nah an das Publikum herangehen. Fotos mit einem Star und Autogramme muss man mitunter bezahlen. Den meisten Spaß machten die „Panels“. Dort kam ein Schauspieler auf die Bühne und stellte sich den Fragen des Publikums. Es war interessant, zu sehen, wie wenig die Darsteller mitunter ihren Rollen entsprachen.
Wil Wheaton habe ich dahingehend auch gefragt, wie er mit Menschen umgeht, die eben nicht den Schauspieler von seiner Rolle unterscheiden können. Er erzählte, dass er sich gerade bei seiner Rolle als
„evil-Wil-Wheaton“ in the big bang theory sehr darüber freute, wenn sich Zuschauer über ihn beschwerten, so weiss er, dass er wirklich gut gespielt hatte. In der Tat ist er ein richtiger Nerd, er spielt Computerspiele, mag SciFi Serien und schreibt eigene
SciFi-Romane, die er unter den Creative Commons im Internet veröffentlicht – würde er Papier falten, wäre er der perfekte Kandidat für meine
Flickr-Gruppe „Geekigami“!
Now I'm back home and thinking over all those experiences I had. Such a convention quite different than our Origami Cons. The special guests are mostly actors, who are more or less famous and therefor more or less close to the audience. For some photos with them or an autograph you had to pay money. But the most fun I had during the panels. The stars where on stage and you got the chance to ask the questions about there work or life. It was really interesting, how different some actors are to there role, they once played. I asked
Wil Wheaton about this topic and how he deals with people who can't differentiate between an actor and his role. He told us about his work at
the big bang theory as „evil Wil Wheaton“ and that he is really happy, when someone is complaining about his bad behaviour, because of this he knows, he made a good job and acted very well. In fact he is a real nerd, he plays computer games, likes SciFi-shows and writes his own
SciFi-novel and sets it under the creative commons – if he would fold paper, he would be the perfect candidate for my
flickr-group „Geekigami“!
Apropos Geekigami: Nichtsdestotrotz habe ich es geschafft dort ein wenig Origami unterzubringen. Es gab dort nämlich auch eine Artshow, bei der Künstler Bilder oder Modelle ausstellen konnten. Das war meine Chance, gefaltete Raumschiffe, das Klingonenzeichen, das ich letztes Jahr in Italien entwickelt habe, und eine „
Pyrithianische Mondfalken“-Attrappe, wie man sie in „
Eine Nacht Krankenstation“ aus Enterprise sehen konnte, zu zeigen.Es fühlte sich fast wie auf einer Origami Convention an, als ich meine Sachen auf einem Tisch arrangierte, doch als ich mich umblickte und auf all die Modelle aus Plastik, Stoff und was sonst noch sah, wirkte es doch ganz schön komisch. Am Ende schien es aber ganz gut angekommen zu sein, denn beim Kunst Wettbewerb am Ende des Wochenendes, erreichte ich den … Trommelwirbel … ZWEITEN Platz!!

Apropos Geekigami: Nevertheless I was able to include some Origami stuff into the scene: There is also an art-show, where artist can show there paintings or models. This was my chance to present some folded starships, the klingon sign I designed last year in italy and einen „
pyrithian moonhawk“-dummy, like the one they used in the episode „
night in sickbay“ in Enterprise. To me it felt a bit like beeing on an Origami convention, having a table, where I put my folded stuff on, but looking left and right to all those models made of plastic, fabric ore anything else, it looked a bit strange. In the end, it must have been a good idea, to show the models, because in the art contest I made the … tada … tada … SECOND place!!
Zum Schluss muss ich zugeben, dass ich tatsächlich so eine Art Trekkie bin... Ich konnte über die meisten Insiderwitze lachen, habe mich riesig gefreut Scott Bakula (Captain Archer) zu treffen, kann es immer noch nicht glauben, dass mich
Marina Sirtis (
Deanna Troi) umarmt hat, ich bin stolz auf meine Frage, die ich Will Wheaton zu dessen grandioser Rolle in the big bang theory gestellt habe, Ich mag das Foto mit mir und
Carel Struyken (
Mr. Homn) sehr … und ich hatte eine Menge Spaß.
At the end I have to say, I am some kind of a Trekkie... I could laugh about a lot of those insider jokes about star trek, I was so happy to meet Scott Bakula, I still can't believe,
Marina Sirtis (
Deanna Troi)huged me, I'm proud to have asked Will Wheaton a good question about his great role in the big bang theory, I really like the photo with me and
Carel Struyken (
Mr. Homn) … and I had a lot of fun.
